Vittoria is a film of disarming authenticity and real heart, with a seemingly simple story.

 2024 | 81 min |Drama | Italy | Italian with English subtitles

CAST | Marilena Amato, Gennaro Scarica, Vincenzo Scarica, Anna Amato

Jasmine (Marilena Amato) is a Neapolitan woman whose three sons are growing older and who has always dreamed of having a daughter. Jasmine is the beating heart of the family, she runs a hairdressing business employing her son, her home life is busy and within her humble working-class family her unlikely dream causes tensions among her husband and sons.

It seems everything is against her, the bureaucracy, her finances and the lack of consensus among friends and family.

Yet, she perseveres. It feels as if we are watching a documentary, the performances are so restrained and realistic that we feel like witnesses to something truly personal, intimate and absolutely unique. It reminded me of Ken Loach’s best work.

Many of the cast are not professional actors, grounding the film in a vernacular honesty that is quietly surprising and genuinely profound.
